All you need is some fabric (Got some leftover fabric pieces at home? Good news), thread and a sewing machine. Don’t worry if you are not an expert at using the sewing machine, if you can stitch a straight line then that’s all it takes. These can also be made with a needle and thread, but might be a little time consuming.
You will need:
Four 10” x 10” fabric
Two pieces for the exterior of the bag
Two pieces for the inner lining
Two 16” long cords or string of your choice
You can change the dimensions as per your need and requirement
Got everything you need? Now follow these simple steps and impress everyone around you with your amazing skills.
First of all mark the area on the exterior of the bag from where the string will pass. Mark two lines, ½” apart, from where you want the string to pass through.
Place the two pieces of the bag exterior, wrong side up and pin them together. Stitch close from three sides leaving the marked ½” gap unstitched.Neaten each side of the seam separately by opening and stitching the sides of the seam.
Secure the string opening by stitching the seam either side down.
Put the pieces of interior lining, wrong sides up and stitch along three sides.Fold the inner lining and exterior of the bag and iron them. It will give it a neat look as well as make it easier to stitch.
Place the lining inside the bag and pin it to the exterior at the top opening.
Stitch the lining to the exterior at the top opening.Carefully stitch across the marked area from where the string will pass through.Using a hair pin or a safety pin, thread the first cord through entire drawstring casing. Both ends will come our through same opening. Repeat the same process for second opening. Knot the ends of each cord.That’s it, you’ve made it, your very own drawstring bag. Use the bags to gift goodies or to store your own personal items.Pull the string from both ends to close the bag.The bag is now ready 😀
